Hold the Date!
On Tuesday, August 5, the Ridgely’s Delight Association will celebrate National Night Out with a potluck in Conway Park. This annual event encourages people to get outside to meet their neighbors and interact with police and firefighters. It is meant to strengthen neighborhood spirit and build partnerships in an informal setting. Bring the roommates, the kids, or just yourself and enjoy an evening of socializing. The Ridgely’s Delight Association will be providing hot dogs, burgers, and veggie options, and we ask neighbors to bring a side dish or dessert to share. BYOB. It’s always a good time. Watch this newsletter and social media for more details.
A Nighttime Paddle Board Experience
You don’t want to miss Bmore SUP’s next full moon paddling adventure on Friday, July 11 at 7:30 pm. It's an unforgettable nighttime paddle experience on the Inner Harbor just as the sun is setting, and the full moon is rising over the city. Paddling experience is required for this tour. Paddlers are encouraged to deck out in as much glow-in-the-dark clothing and accessories as possible!
Celebrate the Fourth
Baltimore will once again host a Fourth of July celebration with fireworks over the Inner Harbor. The event, which will run from 1 pm to 10 pm, will also feature local performances at the Inner Harbor Amphitheater. The fireworks are scheduled to begin around 9:30 pm, with the best viewing spots being the Inner Harbor, Federal Hill, and Harbor East.
There will also be the Cherry Hill Arts & Music Waterfront Festival that day scenic Middle Branch Park, which offers views of the Baltimore City skyline and the distant fireworks. Plus, there will be a drone show starting at 9:30 pm. The festival features live music, arts & crafts, a children’s village, historical reenactments and more.
Buzz Off, Mosquitoes!
As the weather warms up, so does mosquito activity! Mosquitoes can transmit germs that cause illnesses, but the good news is we can all take simple steps to protect ourselves and our community.
Effective mosquito control starts at home. Here are some suggestions to help keep these buzzing pests at bay:
- Ditch Standing Water: Mosquitoes love to lay their eggs in still water. Regularly empty items like buckets, planters, and pet bowls. Even a bottle cap of water can be a breeding ground!
- Secure Your Home: Make sure your window and door screens are in good repair. Keep doors closed, and use air conditioning when possible to keep mosquitoes out.
- Indoor Vigilance: Don't forget indoor plants and pet water bowls! Empty and scrub water-holding items inside your home weekly.
- Consider Control Products: For larger areas of standing water that can't be removed, consider using larvicides. If adult mosquitoes are still a problem, indoor insecticides can be used, or you might consider professional pest control.
By working together, we can significantly reduce mosquito populations in our neighborhood and enjoy a healthier, bite-free summer.
