Parking update
Virtual Permit Parking (VPP) has been in effect here since November. As of Dec. 13th, the city is writing actual tickets for all parking violations except street sweeping. Although there were some issues with warning tickets being improperly written during the initial implementation phase, neighbors provided the Parking Authority with information that helped them correct the problems.
To make using VPP easier, you can now download the PermitConnect Baltimore app. Available on both Android and Apple, the app can be used to schedule guest passes and to perform other VPP functions.
Inner Harbor ice rink
If you haven’t had a chance to test your skating skills yet this winter, there’s still time. The rink at Pratt and Light Streets will remain open until January 17.
The hours are:
Monday through Thursday, 12:00-10:00pm
Friday, 12:00-11:00pm
Saturday, 10:00am-11:00pm
Sunday, 10:00am-8:00pm
$10 gets you on the ice. Skate rentals are $4 (hockey skates).
Christmas tree collection dates
Time to take down the "O Tannenbaum"? Curbside collection occurs Jan. 2 – Jan. 31. Set trees out on your regular trash collection day. Place trees at the same location where your trash is collected and make sure the tree is free of ornaments and tinsel.
Food scrap composting program
Baltimore City residents can drop-off food scraps for composting at one of DPW’s five residential drop-off locations. This drop-off initiative is a pilot program funded by a grant agreement with NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) as part of the Food Matters Regional Initiative. The partnership between the City and NRDC seeks to implement projects to advance food waste prevention, food rescue and composting.
The residential drop-off location nearest to Ridgely’s Delight is at 2840 Sisson Street. Their hours are Monday to Saturday 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday-Saturday.
In addition to the DPW residential drop-off sites, residents can bring food waste to two farmers’ market collection sites, the 32nd Street Farmers’ Market and JFX Farmers’ Market (currently closed for the winter).

Winter ‘survival’ tips
Winter in the Baltimore region can sometimes be harsh, but there are things you can do to make the season less problematic.
Check now and make sure that you have a snow shovel on hand. Once a blizzard has been predicted, panic sets in and items like that won’t be available in stores.
Pipes and utility meters can freeze if temperature drops into the teens. On extremely cold nights, leave a thin stream of cold water running from a faucet somewhere in your house. The stream should be a continuous flow, about the thickness of a pencil lead.
